Lion Pride Community Update 3/28/2024

Kindness Week: Get ready to spread joy and kindness because Kindness Week is just around the corner, happening from April 1st to the 5th! It’s time to ignite a chain reaction of compassion and positivity throughout our school.

  • Kicking off the week with Stand Up Monday! It’s all about being an upstander and stepping in to help solve conflicts. Teachers will be armed with restorative questions to guide students through any disagreements, fostering understanding and empathy. And don’t forget to dress up in your favorite team gear to show solidarity and support!
  • Talk About Your Feelings Tuesday, let your emotions shine by wearing the color that represents how you feel. It’s a day to open up, share, and connect with others on a deeper level.
  • Get ready to spread smiles like confetti on Compliment Wednesday! Make someone’s day by giving genuine compliments to at least five people. Let’s uplift each other and bask in the warmth of positivity.
  • Thursday is all about Inclusion! Whether it’s in games, activities, or just daily interactions, let’s ensure everyone feels welcome and valued. And why not coordinate outfits with friends to show unity and inclusivity?
  • Wrap up the week with Dance with Somebody Friday! Get ready to boogie because we have a special treat – the Massive Monkees from the Beacon studio will be joining us for an unforgettable assembly. Let’s celebrate the power of kindness through music and movement!

Global Reading Challenge:  A HUGE congratulations to the “John Muir Potatoes” who participated in the Global Reading Challenge Semi Finals Tuesday! Our team made it to the tie breaker round and ended the day in 3rd place! We are so proud of them.

Family Waiting Area: Please wait in the kickball area if you are waiting to use the playground after dismissal. The playground is available after 2nd bell.

Spring Break: School will be closed April 8th -12th for Spring Break

State Assessments: Smarter Balance Assessment (SBA) will take place from April 29 to May 30th for all 3rd -5th graders. If you have questions about state testing, please email Mr. Thomas at qothomas@seattleschools.org.

“Move Around the World” with the Muir Lions: Monday April 29th and Friday May 3rd: John Muir families can join nearly 7,000 other families across SE Seattle (representing 17 schools!) in Move-A-Thon events and fundraising. We’ll kick off with a Spirit Morning at drop-off on 4/29, and then cheer on each grade as they move on the playground on 5/3. You can treat yourself on Saturday, May 4th at our community bake sale! Please donate to Move Around the World today and share with your network. (Funds raised are distributed among Alliance schools using an equitable funding distribution model.)

Want to Help Support Muir? Join the PTA Executive Committee! Most members of our current board have served a two-year term so we’re seeking volunteers for the roles of President, Vice President, and Secretary. Orientation and hands-on training and support will be provided to incoming leaders. If you’re interested or have questions, please reach out to info@themuirpta.org

Seeking Help with the Multicultural Festival! The staff and students are planning this year’s Multicultural Festival (Thursday, April 25th). They are looking for a representative from the community to help with coordination of the event.  This would entail attending 1-2 meetings, and other coordination by email.

The Muir PTA Presents Supporting our Kids’ Mental Health: Tues April 16th, 6:00-7:30pm, at Muir:

In honor of mental health awareness month, come to this special PTA meeting to learn about how Muir supports social and emotional learning, and from community experts about how to support your kids at home. Meet with City Leaders about Lake Washington Blvd, Monday 4/1 7:00-8:30pm, Mount Baker Community Center, 2811 Mt. Rainier Dr. S. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Lake Washington Boulevard Renovations project team will present their proposed Lake Washington Blvd Renovations.
