Lion Pride Community Update 3/1/2024

Happy Women’s History Month: Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Women’s History Month 2024 will take place from March 1- March 31.

Let’s show our support March 8th by wearing the colors of International Women’s Day: Green (hope, new growth), Purple (royalty, justice, dignity), and White (equality, uplifting, possibility). 

African and African American Meeting: March 8, 5:00pm-6:00pm, Cafeteria. Come join our family community event for information about FLASH (5th Grade) and LGBTQIA+ studies. Questions and concerns about the topic will be discussed here.  

Family Math Night: Join us for our Math Night,  Thursday March 21, 3:30pm to 5:00pm. There will be math activities and information for the entire family to enjoy!  

Join us for a play date and bake sale to raise funds for John Muir! John Muir PTA will be hosting a play date and bake sale March 9,  1:00pm-3pm at the Mt Baker Playground. Join us and spread the word to your friends, family, and neighbors! Sign up to contribute baked goods.

State Assessments: Smarter Balance Assessment (SBA) will take place from April 29 to May 30 for all 3rd -5th graders. If you have questions about State testing, please email Mr. Thomas at qothomas@seattleschools.org.   

Want to Help Support Muir? Join the PTA Executive Committee! Most members of our current board have served a two-year term so we’re seeking volunteers for the roles of President, Vice President, and Secretary. Orientation and hands-on training and support will be provided to incoming leaders. If you’re interested or have questions, please reach out to info@themuirpta.org. 

Take the brief, anonymous PTA budget priorities survey by Friday, March 8th!  

PTA working meeting:  March 5th, 6:00pm-7:30pm, at Muir. Childcare and dinner will be provided. We are working to provide interpretation. All are welcome! Attend in-person or via zoom.

John Muir Family Fun Art Workshop!  Saturday, April 6, 10am-12:30pm at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), 300 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101. Tour and activities led by a SAM museum educator, followed by a workshop led by a teaching artist. Lunch and interpretation provided. Families will receive tickets to enjoy the museum for the day. Transportation available – rsvp through a flyer that will go home with your child. Learn about our partnership with SAM.
