NAAPID: Please join us for our National African American Parent Involvement Day February 12 from 9am to 1pm. We will have an interactive career fair for students to participate in. We are currently seeking parents to volunteer in their children’s classrooms and Black professionals to serve at our career fair. Black Lives Matter at School Week: Feb 2-9: There are lots of ways to engage with and celebrate the Black Lives Matter movement.

Mid-Winter Break: School will be closed the week of February 19th and will resume on February 26th.

Family Resource Hour. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend the Multilingual Family Hours on January 31. We greatly enjoyed having a chance to share about our program at John Muir and to hear from you! We love and appreciate being able to collaborate with you. We will be holding Multilingual Family Hours the first Wednesday of every month in the library from 12:00-1:00. We hope that you can join us. Next Wednesday, February 7th we will be focusing on resources and supports that are available to students and families both at John Muir and within the community. Please join us to hear from our school counselor and family advocate. ReWa and East African Family Services will also be here to share about their programs that support students outside of school hours. Hope to see you next Wednesday!

Valentines Day Family Yoga: Loving Yourself From the Inside Out, with Ms. Kara-Lee:  February 14th, 4:00-5:00pm, Columbia City Yoga, 4860 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, 98118. Proceeds benefit the Space Between, which offers mindfulness training to Muir students, staff and families.

Free STEM Community learning opportunity Saturday, February 10th, 12 pm – 3 pm at University of Washington HUB Lyceum Youth ages 6-15 can explore science and technology through interactive activities, many focused on food science! Parents/guardians reserve your tickets.

John Muir Family Fun Art Workshop! Saturday, April 6, 10am-12:30pm at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), 300 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101. Tour and activities led by a SAM museum educator, followed by a workshop led by a teaching artist. Lunch and interpretation provided. Families will receive tickets to enjoy the museum for the day. Transportation available – rsvp through a flyer that will go home with your child. Learn about our partnership with SAM.
