Title I, Part A is a federal program funded by the Every Child Succeeds Act (ESEA) that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and public schools with a high percentage of families who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Title I funds are spent to improve academic achievement and enhance family engagement.

Examples of services paid for by Title I, Part A include:

• Reading & math intervention
• Trained tutors
• Extended day activities
• Summer school
• Family engagement forums to enhance students? academic growth

Muir Family Involvement Plan

Finding Ways to Connect All Year Long

We typically start each September with a school-sponsored Open House. We also invite all families into the building for Curriculum (Back to School) Night in October. Throughout the year we will sponsor a variety of events that bring families together, including:

•   PTA Board meetings monthly

•   PTA-sponsored Coffee Chats where parents can meet with other parents and admin in an informal setting. Coffee Chats are scheduled for the last Wednesday of each month.

•   Community meetings to inform parents/guardians about initiatives at the school with time set aside for questions

•   Bilingual Family Meetings where parents will be given information in their native language and will have the opportunity to ask questions or voice concerns

•   Social/educational events for families including a Black Love School Dance, Black Excellence event(s), Multicultural Night/Talent Show, Explorations Day, Family Conferences, Kindergarten Meet & Greet

To make our communications accessible to all families:

• We have bilingual instructional assistants on staff to provide translation support for families.
• We use Talking Points (translated into four primary languages) to notify/remind families of upcoming events, school closures and changes in schedule.
• We use SPS robocalls to notify/remind families of upcoming events, school closures and changes in schedule.
• We regularly communicate with families through a Principal’s Community Update (newsletter sent via Talking Points), as well as utilizing classroom communications to inform families about evening events, class activities, curriculum, and field trips.

We encourage parent volunteers in classrooms, in the office, and on field trips. We also have a parent representative on the Building Leadership Team (BLT).
