    HEALTH AND FITNESS MOVES MINDS!

The 2020 – 2021 school year is here! This year at John Muir, students will be working virtually and/ or in person to further develop their fitness and health knowledge and skills. Students will be putting their gifts, talents, and interests to the test as we maneuver keeping students physically active in various sport, activity, and game play settingsWe teach students that our bodies do so much for us, and that it is important to learn how to take care of them.

We will be teaching studentsthe health and skill related components of fitnessThe five health related components of fitness provide students with a framework to understand how to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle throughout their life. The six skill related components of fitness are used to train students to better their abilities in activities, games, and sports. By improving student’s skill related components of fitness, they will better their health-related components of fitness and overall wellbeing. These components of fitness include:

    • Health related components of fitness:

    • Cardiorespiratory endurance

    • Muscular strength

    • Muscular endurance

    • Flexibility

    • Body composition

    • Skill related components of fitness:

    • Balance

    • Power

    • Speed

    • Reaction time

    • Coordination

    • Agility

Along with focusing on the health and skill related fitness components, students will learn about the human body and many of the systems that make it up (ex. skeletal system, muscular system, etc.). Throughout the year we intend to follow district and state standards to further develop our students health and fitness educationWe both look forward to this school year, especially because this year there are two physical education teachers (1st time ever at John Muir!), which will allow for more movement time for students throughout the week.
